Rakuten TV is looking for a Software Engineer responsible for developing different backend elements managed by the video streaming team at Rakuten TV. Your primary focus will be the development of mostly server-side logic to allow our users a successful and enjoyable playback experience within our VOD service.
Our current backends are mostly written on Ruby (on Rails) and Python (Flask), but the team is always open to try new things, so be ready to learn, try and have fun dealing with new technologies.

Responsibilities:
- Writing reusable, testable and efficient code
- Design and implementation of low-latency, high-availability and high-performance applications
- Implementation of security and data protection
- Integration of data storage solutions
-Integration of 3rd party APIs within the logic workflow

Permanent and Full-Time Position, Competitive Salary
Demanem:
- Strong knowledge about Internet Protocols (HTTP, HTTP2, TCP, IP...)
- Understanding of high-volume video traffic delivery through a CDN
- Background on video streaming technologies (one of Smooth Streaming, DASH, Widevine or Playready is a plus)
- Experience in a scripting language (extra points for Python or Ruby) with knowledge of a web framework (Flask, Rails or Django)
- Familiarity with some ORM (Object Relational Mapper) libraries (such as ActiveRecord)
- Able to write, test and document a REST API
- Knowledge about queue/worker architectures
- Understanding the use of threading, and multi-process architectures
- Basic understanding of front-end technologies, such as JavaScript, HTML5
- Knowledge of user authentication and authorization between multiple systems, servers and environments
- Understanding of fundamental design principles behind a scalable application
- Able to create database schemas that represent and support business processes
- Strong unit test and debugging skills in a Continuous Integration environment
- Hands on experience with git (or similar version control systems)
- Passion for the team work, love to share knowledge and learn from your coworkers
- Motivated and willingness to develop new skills
- Capable of working on multiple projects and technology stacks (almost) simultaneously
